Her Voice Could Win Over Any Judge, And Now It Has! Beautiful!Jesus Daily
Quick, think of a star singer. How much of what makes a person a star depends on looks?
Toni Warne was always concerned that she would be judged on her appearance instead of her voice. She thought if people watched her, all they would see was her hair. Or rather, her lack of hair.
Though she grew up struggling with alopecia areata, she never let it stop her from singing in cabarets, lounges, clubs and open mic nights. But, her big break came when no one could look at her on The Voice UK. After all, it’s called The Voice – not The Look.
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition that occurs when the body, in a sense, attacks itself by mistake. This attack takes place at the hair follicles. It results in hair loss. The National Alopecia Areata Foundation says that 6.6 million people in the United States, and 147 million people around the world, will be affected by alopecia areata.
For many – especially in Western cultures where so much emphasis is placed on youth and beauty – this can cause feelings of lack of confidence, depression and social anxiety.
Most of us would agree the mantras that have been circulated: beauty comes from within; beauty is only skin deep; beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But, when faced with something like alopecia areata, mantras can just become words. That’s what happened with Toni Warne – but she overcame – and did she ever!!
We all have challenges. We all have dreams. What happens when the challenges seem to threaten our dreams? We have to find a way to overcome! Dr. Tabor shares some strategies for doing just that.
Dr. Tabor’s Three Ways to Overcome Challenges
1. Get support. – Challenges can be easier to tackle when you have a team of supporters cheering you on. You have no greater supporter than God. Ask Him for help. Ask people to pray. Share your struggles with others. Get tangible help when you need it.
2. Work. – Once you have your support team in place, focus. Write down your dream and what is blocking it. Begin working on a plan to remove the obstacle and clear the path to your dream. Take it one step at a time. Sometimes it’s a process, but continue to work until you see your goal in sight.
3. Persevere. – We can all be tempted to give up. We get tired. We get discouraged. Never, never, never give up on your dreams. If you persevere, you will make it!
