The crazy reason these parents were charged $40 to hold their newborn babyJesus Daily
Raising a baby can be expensive. From diapers to cribs and carseats, the money seems to be flying out of your pockets! While we pay so much to take care of our babies, the first major expense is the medical bills we are charged to deliver them!
A pair of new parents recently received their hospital bill after having their baby in September. The total amount billed was over $13,000 before insurance stepped in to cover costs. However the odd thing they noticed wasn’t the overall cost, but the charge for $39.95 listed as “skin to skin after C-sec.” AKA holding their baby!
The parents posted a picture of the bill on Reddit sending the internet into an uproar. Some users thought it was funny but others were upset by the charge and began to question the American healthcare system!
As for the parents, they just laughed it off, saying “The nurse let me hold the baby on my wife’s neck/chest. Even borrowed my camera to take a few pictures for us … Everyone involved in the process was great, and we had a positive experience. We just got a chuckle out of seeing that on the bill.”
Another Reddit user that claimed to be a labor and delivery nurse saw the post and offered an explanation for the charge. She said that some hospitals charge for skin to skin after C-sec. because there is a need for another nurse to be present in the room at that time.
