Mall of America announces they will not be open on Thanksgiving Day

Black Friday is arguably the best day of the year to find unbelievable discounts from your favorite retail stores and stock up on Christmas gifts. However, in recent years Black Friday been starting a little earlier than many would like. In many cities across the US stores open their doors around 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving day, causing employees and shoppers to miss out on quality holiday family time.

Mall of America made an announcement that shocked the retail world, they will not open until 5 a.m. on Black Friday! Although the mall itself will not be open on Thanksgiving, they are allowing the stores within to make their own decisions concerning when they will open, hoping that retailers will take their side and choose to remain closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Jill Renslow, the mall’s senior vice president of marketing and business development, said this about the decision: “We’ve been talking about this for months, looking at the numbers, looking at the pros and the cons …  We’re excited to give this day back to our employees so they can celebrate with their families.”

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

  1. God calls you to love your family and spend time with those you love.
  2. Never be consumed by the material things in this world, don’t let your love for things outweigh your love for people.
  3. Rest is good, make sure you take the holiday season to find rest from the normal business of life.

Share if you think Thanksgiving should be spent with family and not shopping or working!
