Convenience store robberies are a big problem and a major source of police attention. The last three decades have shown a rise in these types of robberies for a number of reasons. Most stores are placed in locations with easy access. While this is intended to provide quick access for customers, it also provides quick getaway opportunities for robbers.
Dr. Tabor shares three Bible verses about stealing
1. You shall not steal – Exodus 20:15. The eighth of the 10 commandments tells us that we are not to steal. God makes this clear – and it speaks to all forms of stealing.
2. Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them. – Psalm 62:10
It is true we follow our hearts. If our hearts are not set on the right things, we can be led into wrong activities. 1 Chronicles 22:19 says we are to set our minds and hearts on seeking the Lord.
3. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Ephesians 4:28
With hearts set on God, we are to engage in honest work to provide for ourselves and others in need, as we are able. This does not speak to special circumstances where one may need help. If a person is able to work, he or she should do so, instead of resorting to stealing.
We do not know this thief’s full intention. Luckily, he was stopped before committing his crime. You won’t want to miss the dramatic scene!
