You Have Been Cooking Onions Wrong, Now This Chef Explains What To Do With Each One!Jesus Daily
If you think an onion is an onion is an onion, think again. Choosing the right onion can make the difference between an okay meal and an out-of-this-world meal. Moreover, selecting an onion is only half the battle. Winning the onion war (one of the lesser-known wars) means cooking each onion just right. Luckily for you, we consulted Chef Buck for just that reason. Here is what he had to say.
• Yellow Onion
Yellow onions are your default onion. They go great in just about anything, are low in cost, and available year-round. If you’re looking to caramelize an onion, the yellow onion is your hero (it has a lot of sugar).
• Red Onion
The perfect salad onion, red onions are great raw. Not so great if you’re wanting caramelized onions for your Philly cheesesteak; stick with yellow onions for that. Use these as toppers.
